David Warner and Steve Smith will not be allowed to play in IPL 2018 because of their involvement in the recent ball tampering saga. IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla announced the decision after Cricket Australia banned both the players for a duration of 12 months.
Smith and Warner already had stood down as captains of their respective IPL franchises- Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday and Wednesday morning respectively. But their axe from IPL was confirmed only they were banned by CA.
Shukla has asked both the franchises to look for replacements of both the players.. Royals have already named Ajinkya Rahane as their captain for the season, but Sunrisers have not yet announced who will replace Warner.
"The CoA, in consultation with BCCI acting president Mr CK Khanna, IPL chairman Mr Rajeev Shukla and BCCI acting hon. secretary Mr Amitabh Choudhary, has decided to ban Mr Smith and Mr Warner with immediate effect from participation in IPL 2018," the BCCI said in a statement. "The BCCI hopes that the cricketers participating in the IPL hold the highest regard for the Spirit of Cricket and Code of Conduct for Players and Match Officials."
