Hits and Flops Qualifier 1: Vancouver Knights Vs CWI B Team

What a match it was! With an improbable victory, the young West Indians has stormed into the final, courtesy - the best innings of the tournament so far.

Here are our takes on the hits and flops from this match.

Sherfane Rutherford (CWI B)

This 19-year old was the only bowler that earned some respect from the opponents yesterday with his right-arm medium fast bowling and had figures of 4-0-25-2. Then he went berserk with the bat in his left hand and played the innings of his life (of the tournament as well!). His ‘super-hero’ effort of 134 off just 66 balls left the Knights stunned and carried the CWI B through to victory from a seemingly hopeless situation of 11-3.

Chris Gayle (VK)

He seems to be enjoying his new-found role of a sheet anchor these days. It was a captain’s knock (50 off 42 balls) with a few customary ‘manhattans’ that had the cameramen posted over the sightscreen in danger.

Chadwick Walton (VK)

This experienced Jamaican took the pressure off Gayle at the top and had a tremendous outing for the second consecutive match. He just bulldozed the CWI bowlers inside the power play to post a quickfire 24-ball 54. The powerplay score of the Knights read 73-1.

Derval Green (CWI B)

He had a complete off day yesterday and was taken to the cleaners by the Knights batsmen. It was quite baffling why he was given the 19th over by the captain with Russel at the crease. His eventual figures read 4-0-65-0.

Fawad Ahmed (VK)

The experienced leggie was blown away by the onslaught of Rutherford and Pooran as he was clobbered for 45 in his 3 overs.
