Hits and Flops Grand Finale: CWI B Team Vs Vancouver Knights

The Knights clinched the coveted trophy of the inaugural GT20 Canada this morning with a comprehensive performance.

Here are our takes on the hits and flops from this match.

Saad Bin Zafar (VK)

It’s only befitting that a member of the Canadian cricket team produced a Man-of-the-Match performance in the Grand Finale. First, he pegged back the progress of the CWI B with the big wickets of Brandon King and Fabian Allen (his figures read 4-1-26-2) and then carried his team over the line with a blistering unbeaten 79 off 48 balls.

Sheldon Cottrell (VK)

He was helpless in front of the Rutherford-onslaught in qualifier-1 but bounced back nicely with a match-winning performance with the ball. He accounted for both the explosive openers of the CWI B in the power play and then came back to bag 2 more in the 18th over. His impressive figures read- 3.4-0-29-4.

Fawad Ahmed (VK)

The accuracy and guile of this experienced leggie were too much for the middle order batsmen of the CWI B and his triple strikes of Pooran, Hodge, and Bramble dashed all the hope of a late-innings flurry harboured by the young West Indians.

Nicholas Pooran (CWI B)

After the early exit of three frontline batsmen inside the power-play, the CWI B looked up to the inform Pooran to provide the much-needed solidity in the middle order and propel his team to a big score. But, Pooran was bowled by a beauty from Fawad Ahmed for just 8.

Chris Gayle (VK)

We expected a sparkling innings from the “big man” in the “Final Frontier” but he perished for just 2 in the second over.
