Greatest records by Indian women in international cricket

Records held by Mithali Raj

  • Most runs in one-day international - Mithali is the leading run scorer in ODI cricket with gigantic 6190 Runs in 167 innings
  • The first and the only woman to cross the mark of 6 thousand international runs in ODI
  • The youngest batswoman to score a hundred in ODI cricket - She scored a century knock of 114* on her ODI debut at the age of 16 years. Also she is the one among only 5 women to score a century on debut.
  • Most number of 50+ scores in ODI cricket – 55 times she scored 50 or more runs in ODI cricket which is the highest ever number in ODI that include 49 fifties and 6 hundreds. 49 fifties is also the record for most fifties by any woman in ODI cricket.
  • Most number of consecutive Fifties in ODI – Mithali is the first batswoman to score seven consecutive fifties
  • Most number of fifties in any calendar year – Mithali scored 10 fifties in a calendar year 2017 surpassing Ellyse Perry’s count of 9 which she managed in 2016.
  • Second highest career average in ODI (minimum 25 innings) - 51.58 in 167 innings only behind Australia’s Meg Lanning with career average of 55.53 in 62 innings. The important point to note here is Mithali has played thrice as many matches as Meg Lanning, and maintaining that kind of healthy average throughout such a long career gives an idea about how consistent she has been right from the start. So, for me she leads the chart well ahead of Meg Lanning.
  • Most number of Nineties in ODI cricket – Five times she dismissed in Nineties. Had she not got out for those many times, she would have tallied Meg Lanning’s current record of most hundredsJ, but no problem Mithali you have achieved far more important than thatand we’re proud of you.
  • Second most consecutive ODI innings without a duck – Between 2000 and 2007, Mithali never dismissed for a score of zero. This happened for total 74 times in that time frame which is the second highest number.
  • Most number of consecutive ODI matches for a team – Mithali represented India in record 109 consecutive matches played between 2004 and 2013. This is the highest number of consecutive matches played by any player for any country.
  • Second most ODI matches as a captain – Mithali led India in total 109 ODIs till date which is the second highest number after Charlotte Edwards’s 117. Also Mithali holds the record for second most consecutive matches played as a captain. She led India in 57 consecutive matches, just one less than that of former Australian captain Belinda Clark.
  • Only one of six batswomen to register a double century in Test cricket. And she is the youngest to do so among all six (at the age of 19 years).
  • Second highest individual score in an inning in Test cricket – Mithali stand second in the chart with 214 runs in an inning in test.
  • Part of a highest ever unbeaten partnership in ODI – Mithali Raj along with Reshma Gandhi is a part of highest ever unbeaten partnership of 258 runs, in which Mithali scored 114* and Reshma scored 104*. This happened way back in 1999 and it was also the record for highest ever partnership(beaten or unbeaten) before it was surpassed by a pair of England’s openers in 2008, which further surpassed recently by a pair of India’s Deepti Sharma and Punam Raut to register a new high of 320 runs. However, Mithali and Reshma still hold the record for highest ever unbeaten partnership.
  • All six ODI centuries of Mithali have come in winning causes - Isn’t that great!
  • Huge winning percentage – India have snatched the victory in (approx.) 75 % of the total matches that are played under the leadership of Mithali.

Records held by Jhulan Goswami

  • Most wickets in ODI - 195 Wickets to her name which is the highest number by any woman in ODI, just 5 less from reaching the gigantic 200 mark.
  • Second best bowling figure in an inning in ODI as a captain – 6 wickets for 31 runs with an economy of 3.1 is the second best bowling figure by any captain in an inning. The first best belongs to another Indian captain Mamatha Maben for her 6 wickets for 10 runs
  • Most catches in ODI – 60 catches to her name, the highest number.

Records by others

  • Highest partnership for any wicket in ODI – Deepti Sharma and Punam Raut holds this record of highest partnership of 320 runs for any wicket. Until 2008 this record was held by a pair of Mithali Raj and Reshma Gandhi (for their unbeaten 258 runs partnership way back in 1999) before it was broken by an opening pair of England in 2008. Recently in 2017, India’s Raut and Sharma set a new gigantic high of 320 runs in this category of records. However, as far as unbeaten partnership is concern, Mithali and Reshma still hold the top position.
  • Second highest individual score in ODI and third highest in WWC –Deepti Sharma holds the record for second highest individual score of 188 runs in ODI overall. Harmanpreet Kaur’s 171* is the third highest individual score in women’s world cup and fifth highest individual score overall and it’s the highest ever individual score for a batswoman batting at fourth position.
  • Most fours hit by an individual in an inning in ODI – In her knock of 188 runs, Deepti hit 27 fours which is the highest number of fours hit in an inning in women’s ODI history
  • Second most sixes hit by an individual in an inning in ODI – In her knock of 171* runs, Harmanpreet hit 7 sixes which is the second highest number of sixes hit in an inning in women’s ODI history.
