Like always, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a great time at the IPL auction but not so on the cricket field. The fans’ high hopes evaporated after Chennai Super Kings crushed the ‘RCB Bold Brigade’ by seven wickets in the opening game of the 2019 IPL at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23. Besides captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, RCB’s squad consists of big shots like Shimron Hetmyer (WI), Moeen Ali (ENG), Colin de Grandhomme (NZ) and Shivam Dube (India) - all of who can single-handedly polish off games. Even with the availability these world class players, RCB couldn’t even touch the three-figure mark against MS Dhoni’s side.
In an exclusive chat with The Jaali Express, Kohli gave his views on RCB’s poor show. He shook his head in disappointment and said, “Too many cooks spoil the curry. We have some of the best batters on our side, and IPL is a platform where all of them are looking to give bowlers a hard time in the middle.”
While sharing a laugh, Kohli compared IPL to gully cricket. “The IPL is like gully cricket, everyone just wants to bat here. So, giving all the hot shots a chance to play didn’t turn out very well for us, and the chameleonic pitch just added to our misery. I mean since when players like (Suresh) Raina started spinning the ball?” Cheeku cheekily remarked.
Needless to say, you don’t deserve to win after posting an insignificant total of 70 against a team led by Dhoni. However, VK18 sounded like he has some better plans for the upcoming fixtures. “I don’t think if I’ll be able to let everyone bat from now on. Also, except for (Yuzvendra) Chahal’s serious show (4-1-6-1) in a not so seriously taken match, I have no reason to consider it as a real game,” the 30-year-old stated.
