Kings XI Punjab started their IPL 2019 campaign with a 14-run win over Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Monday (March 25). After being asked to bat first on a ground where they had never won before, Kings XI Punjab scored 184/4 thanks to Chris Gayle's 79 and Sarfaraz Khan’s unbeaten 29-ball 46. In reply, the Royals were cruising towards the target after Jos Buttler and Ajinkya Rahane added 78 runs for the opening wicket.
However, controversy erupted after R Ashwin mankaded Buttler. The Royals then lost wickets at regular intervals and were kept to 170/9 in their 20 overs.
Here’s a look at the statistical highlights -
--> Gayle's knock helped him reach the 4000 runs in IPL as he became the ninth player to achieve the feat. He also became just the second overseas player after David Warner to score 4000 or more runs in IPL.
--> Sarfaraz’s unbeaten 46 was his highest score in IPL.
--> It was Kings XI Punjab's first win over the Royals in Jaipur. Previously, both teams had met five times at the venue, with the Royals winning all matches.
--> Buttler's dismissal was the first time a batsman has been mankaded in IPL.
